AB 593 CA Building Emission Reduction Strategies

California needs a plan to cut emissions from homes and buildings to fight climate change and prepare communities.

We need a comprehensive roadmap with milestones to create healthy climate-ready homes and buildings for all Californians. With AB 593, we can prioritize low-income and BIPOC communities and workers in our path to a carbon-free future.

Why does California need AB 593?

California homes and buildings generate 25% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the state due to fossil fuel use.

Homes and buildings are the second largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the state, second only to transportation.

The pollution from homes and buildings include nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are toxic to human health.

Benefits

AB 593 directs the California Energy Commission to develop a comprehensive emissions reduction strategy for all buildings in California, with specific targets and timelines. This will provide numerous benefits to Californians.

Cuts pollution & delivers clean air

Supports workers & grows jobs

Provides relief from extreme heat

Protects low-income households

Builds community resilience
